Cymot has been operating since 1948 and is a proud Namibian company celebrating its 75th anniversary.
Alex Theissen, Cymot group chairman, said: "We employ 100% Namibians in our organisation, and that makes us so much more proud to celebrate our 75th anniversary."
It all began in 1948 when Helmut Brass began selling Autolite car batteries from his residence in Promenadenweg in Windhoek.
His veranda served as a battery depot. Fast forward to 1950, when the first Cymot branch was opened in Stübel Straße, Windhoek.
In 1976, Claus Theissen bought 50% of the shares in Cymot from Weil and Asheim, Many Simchowitz, and started trading in Swakopmund from an industrial-area garage.
In 1986, Theissen acquired the remaining 50% shares, and in 1994, the Cymot central warehouse in Windhoek's northern industrial area and the Oshakati branch were opened.

Available everywhere
Since then, Cymot has opened shops in most of Namibia's major towns, such as Keetmanshoop, Tsumeb, Gobabis and Grootfontein, to mention but a few.
"The most important aspect of the 75th anniversary is that we must celebrate our success," Alex Theissen said.
The company has since grown to become a leader in the supply of quality products to its customers through its branches in Namibia, as well as trading on a wholesale basis in both South Africa and Angola.

Catering for all
John Mwatile, a regular Cymot customer, said: "I really love shopping with Cymot, simply because they cater for so many different things. Be it a tent or a pot you need for a potjie, or even an outdoor stove. They have it all, and the prices for me personally are really good, so cheers to 75 years of great service from them."
Axel Shanika, a Windhoek resident who also shops at Cymot, said: "Us Namibians, we really love Cymot, because not only are the employees there friendly, but because we know it is a Namibian company that gives back to the country with employment and quality products. So happy 75 years in the making, Cymot!"
Seventy-five years in the industry is not easy to achieve, but Cymot is set to reach greater heights and provide Namibians with quality goods for many years to come.
