Cymot Group invests in Hilltop development
Project earmarked to be flagship
The Cymot Group says it is proud to take on big projects, irrespective of the state of the economy.
The Cymot Group is gearing up to construct its biggest store that will, once completed, become its flagship. This is according to group chairperson Axel Theissen, who said despite prevailing market conditions, they still have confidence in the Namibian economy. He expressed his pride in the Cymot Group's decision to invest in the sizeable project during times when the market is generally very hesitant to take on longer-term debt, let alone make significant investments in Namibia’s growth.
"The vacant land where Cymot Hilltop is being constructed was purchased on 7 October 2022. Bulk earthworks began on 13 December, with approximately 2 000 loads of sand and rocks removed. The municipal building permit was obtained in June 2023. Currently, the project stands at around 65% completion, with the opening of the Cymot flagship shop envisaged for mid-October," Theissen said.
According to him, excavation works resulted in the removal of approximately 18 tonnes of earth from the site. The project is earmarked to be completed in two years, he added.
The new branch is strategically located next to the Grove Mall shopping centre in Windhoek.
Anticipation
Managing director of Namibia Construction Hans-Peter Schulz said he was very pleased to have been appointed alongside numerous Namibian subcontractors for this prestigious project. He provided further details about the sizeable build. Once completed, 4 545 cubic metres of concrete will have been used, with 450 tonnes of reinforcement and around 595 000 bricks. The specially-designed, unique steel roof structure alone weighs 70 tonnes.
The new Cymot flagship will not only be a retail space, but will also feature ample safe customer parking. It has been designed to excel in both customer experience and convenience, Theissen said.
He assured Namibians that by Christmas, they would be able to shop in a vibrant environment and be able to buy products they have not seen elsewhere before. The six months leading up to the opening will be marked by monthly marketing interventions, stirring up anticipation and excitement, he said.
