Introducing Namibia’s First Hydrotherapy Baby Spa: Water Baby Spa and Wellness Centre
In a ground-breaking move, Tulonga Nangombe has introduced Namibia’s first-ever hydrotherapy baby spa – Water Baby Spa and Wellness Centre – a unique space designed to cater to both the physical and emotional needs of young children and their parents. Located in the heart of Namibia, this spa offers a luxurious and calming environment where babies can undergo hydrotherapy and massage sessions to promote well-being from an early age.The idea for Water Baby Spa was inspired by Nangombe’s personal experience searching for a place where her niece could benefit from hydrotherapy. When she couldn’t find any such facility in Namibia, she decided to create one herself. “The inspiration came from my niece. My sister and I were looking for a place where she could experience baby hydrotherapy, and we quickly realised there wasn’t a single spa in Namibia for babies,” she explained during an interview on My.na Property.
A Safe Haven for Babies
Water Baby Spa specialises in hydrotherapy and baby massage, offering a range of services designed to promote physical and psychological development in babies. Hydrotherapy at the spa involves gentle flotation and movement in warm water, which allows babies to explore their natural reflexes and develop comfort in the water. This process has a range of benefits, including relieving colic, reflux, gas, improving sleep and digestion, and boosting overall physical development.
While it may sound like an unusual concept, Tulonga emphasises the numerous benefits hydrotherapy has for babies, especially as a soothing transition from the womb to the outside world. "Hydrotherapy is really the perfect transition from being in the womb to adjusting into the outside world," she noted. The water temperature is carefully maintained at 33°C to 36°C to ensure that babies feel safe and relaxed throughout their session.
In addition to hydrotherapy, Water Baby Spa offers soothing baby massages, which can help alleviate colic, improve circulation, and promote better sleep. Sessions are personalised, with parents being guided through the process so they can continue massaging their babies at home if needed. Parents can also enjoy themed birthday parties for their little ones, which include fun activities like facials, manicures, and pedicures for children aged one to ten. “We want children to experience a spa day and have fun while relaxing,” said Nangombe. The spa provides an intimate atmosphere with a capacity for six children per session, ensuring that each child receives the attention and care they deserve.
A Place for Bonding and Peace of Mind
As for the future, Nangombe is focused on expanding Water Baby Spa to other regions in Namibia. With plans to extend services to the North and Swakopmund, she hopes to make hydrotherapy accessible to more families across the country. Furthermore, the spa plans to introduce additional services, including pre- and postnatal massages for mothers and chiropractic care for babies, as well as a small store offering baby products, including organic remedies for conditions like eczema.
Water Baby Spa is not just about baby care; it’s about fostering a deeper connection between parents and their children. The spa encourages parents to stay present during the sessions, allowing them to witness their child’s progress firsthand and create lasting memories of their bonding experience. The spa also assures parents that the specially designed floaties and equipment used during the hydrotherapy sessions are safe and comfortable for babies, alleviating any concerns parents may have.
With a focus on creating a warm, tranquil environment that is not overstimulating for babies, Water Baby Spa aims to provide the best possible care for Namibia’s youngest generation. Nangombe’s dedication to offering a unique and beneficial service for babies and their families is already making waves in the local community.
