Windhoek’s Doc Jubber Hockey Field came alive on Friday, 16 August, as the legendary South African Afro-pop group Mafikizolo headlined a night to remember.
Organised by Event Solutions, Kasi Vibe Namibia and Armorlamor Promotions, the concert brought together a diverse crowd eager to relive some of the group’s timeless hits spanning 27 years. Despite being held mid-month, the event saw an impressive turnout.
Veteran comedian Neville Basson served as MC, skillfully connecting with the audience with his sharp wit. The night’s entertainment also featured a local line-up, including the Hot Pocket Band, The Ells, Waters, Uncle and Friends and 4x4 Too Much Power, each adding their flair to the vibrant evening. While the local talent delivered solid performances, it was Mafikizolo who truly stole the show, taking fans down memory lane with classics like ‘Ndihamba Nawe’ and ‘Emlanjeni.’
The event organisers were praised for ensuring a safe environment with ample security. However, some attendees felt the VIP experience could have been enhanced, and additional local acts would have been a welcome touch. Overall, it was a night filled with nostalgia and a well-executed celebration of music and culture.
