Ministry of trade cautions the public

ELIJAH MUKUBONDA
The Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade continue to notice a growing concern of online fraud and campaigns of false information purporting to be in support of individual and business entities. We would like to warn the public to be cautious of a scam circulating on social media under the title “OFFICIAL GRANTS APPLICATION FORM” targeting entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in need of financial assistance and grants.
The post circulating on social media platforms alleges that, “the ministry has established partnership with African Development Bank, Global Entrepreneurship Network, The World Bank, and the Africa Trade and Investment Forum” to support SMEs by providing financial assistance/grants. Interested individual/Business entities who wish to be considered for this crucial funding programme are invited”.
The ministry reserves itself from such fabricated opinions expressed in the document, as misleading and are destitute of truth. The promises contained in the paper are untruthful and just another dubious act by the perpetrators. Therefore, the ministry firmly warns the public not to fall for such ill will. The public is further advised to refrain from entertaining any communication exchange nor filling the provided form. We also express sincere regret that a number of major development partners (African Development Bank, Global Entrepreneurship Network, The World Bank, and the Africa Trade and Investment Forum) are cited in such a false public notice.
The Ministry further cautions perpetrators spreading fake news to refrain from such negative deeds. The public is urged to be consistent in verifying the authenticity of public notices that are supposedly issued by the Ministry through the Corporate Communication Subdivision – the Office can be reached at number 061 – 2837223 or email [email protected]
