Salary raise for Meatco's employees (Agri Monitor)
Meatco has announced the successful conclusion and signing of the 2025/26 substantive wage agreement with the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (NAFAU).As part of the agreement, the bargaining unit employees will receive a 4.5% increase on basic salary, while the minimum housing allowance will increase from N$800 to N$1 000 per month. The increase in the basic salary proportionally raises housing allowance as a % of the basic salary, 13th cheque, and pension fund contributions, resulting in an overall compensation increase of 5.8% for the bargaining unit.
The non-bargaining unit employees will also receive a 5% increase on cost to company, effective 1 March 2025 for both units.
"This agreement reflects Meatco’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of our employees, while ensuring the organisation continues to make responsible and sustainable financial decisions. Meatco continues to strike a deliberate balance between employee welfare and long-term business sustainability," according to a press release of Meatco.
"This agreement is a demonstration of our dedication to the people who drive our operations every day. We remain focused on fostering a motivated and supported workforce, while maintaining a sound financial position that ensures the long-term success of Meatco," said acting chief executive officer, Patrick Liebenberg.
"Meatco remains committed to investing in its people, strengthening organisational stability, and contributing meaningfully to the agricultural and processing industries of Namibia."
