The annual inter-house athletics competition at Amazing Kids Private School took place on 6 February for high school learners, marking the first major school event of the year.
The competition, which is known for fostering school spirit and uncovering hidden sporting talents, saw learners and teachers alike participating with great enthusiasm. The school's three houses - Leopards (Blue), Cheetahs (Green), and Lions (Red), competed in various track and field events, with each team striving to win.
In the run-up to the competition, learners participated in Spirit Week, dressing in their respective house colours to generate excitement for the event. The Leopards stood out, with both learners and teachers showing an exceptional level of energy and enthusiasm.
“The energy from the Leopards this year was unmatched,” Aunty Shuumba, a teacher from the school said. “It was great to see both students and staff coming together in support of their teams.”

The competition began with the javelin, discus and shot put events, along with the 3 000-metre race. The Lions took an early lead, followed closely by the Cheetahs, with the Leopards trailing behind. However, a dramatic turn of events occurred during the 100-metre sprint, where the Leopards dominated the race, overtaking both the Lions and the Cheetahs.
In a surprising outcome, the Lions, who had historically been the top-performing house, finished in last place.

One of the learners, Lumueno Carmezia, said that this was a major surprise, as the Leopards really gave it their all and proved that anything is possible in sport.

The competition also served as a selection ground for the school’s athletics team, which has expanded due to the emergence of new talent. Learners and teachers expressed excitement for next year’s event, which promises even more surprises.
“We encourage everyone to come and experience the excitement of this day. It is a highlight of our school calendar, and we look forward to even greater participation next year,” Aunty Shuumba stated.

The inter-house competition continues to play a crucial role in strengthening school unity, fostering friendships, and giving learners a platform to showcase their athletic abilities.
As Amazing Kids looks ahead to the rest of the academic year, the success of this event has set the tone for further school activities to come.
