CAN, Lions Club join forces for childhood cancer awareness
Powerful display of unity and compassion
The proceeds from the event will be directed towards providing essential resources, medical assistance and emotional support for brave youngsters fighting cancer.
In a powerful display of unity and compassion, the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) and the Lions Club recently organised a monumental walk dedicated to raising awareness of childhood cancer. The campaign aimed to support CHICA House, CAN's children’s department.
The event, which took place on Saturday, 2 March, brought together people from all walks of life and radiated love and hope as participants trod the path towards a brighter future for young cancer warriors.
Also in attendance was Elizabeth Parkhaus from the 5th Windhoek Scouts, who said: “We as scouts, as the kids, are here to
support kids with cancer".
With banners held high and determination in their hearts, participants embarked on a journey that transcended physical distances to reach the hearts of those affected by childhood cancer. What made this walk even more remarkable was the heartfelt contribution of the Lions Club, which generously donated $5 000 to support the cause. Participants paid N$50. The proceeds will be donated to CAN.
The financial aid is not just a figure; it represents a tangible expression of love and solidarity for the children battling cancer and their families. The Lions Club's commitment to making a difference echoes the ethos of compassionate giving that defines the organisation.
“The goal is to raise awareness and help those who genuinely need it,” Holger Sircoulomb said.
The proceeds from the event will be directed towards providing essential resources, medical assistance and emotional support for these brave youngsters fighting cancer, creating a ripple effect of care and kindness that will touch their lives positively.
Thanks to the collective efforts of CAN and the Lions Club as well as Namibians who attended the event, CHICA House - a haven for healing - will receive the necessary backing to continue its vital mission in the face of childhood cancer.
As we reflect on this heartwarming event, the echoes of laughter, camaraderie and shared purpose resonate.
This serves as a reminder that when communities come together with love in their hearts, they have the power to make a lasting impact on the lives of those who need it most.
