On Friday, 2 February, Delta Secondary School held its interhouse athletics day. With cheerleaders for each team cheering loudly and proudly for their athletes, the event kicked off with teams delivering a special dance performance. After the excitement of cheering subsided, the first event began.
The day commenced with long-distance athletes gathering for the 800-metre race, followed by the long jump and high jump events.
The 400 m race kicked off, with learners sprinting full force around the track. Concurrently, the field events, including the shot put and javelin throw, took place. The displays of strength on the field contrasted with the agility exhibited on the track.
Throughout the day, the spirits of the learners were kept high by the cheerleaders, who fostered an atmosphere of singing and camaraderie.
Finally, the main event, the 100 m dash, took place. The crowd cheered wholeheartedly as the athletes gave their all on the track.
The learners had a fantastic experience at Delta's interhouse athletics day. Spectators expressed their joy in watching the athletics, while the athletes cherished their opportunity to participate.
Some learners unfortunately sustained minor injuries, but that is the risk of physical sports. For many, however, it is a risk worth taking.
