First honours students graduate in early childhood and pre-primary education
NAMCOL turned dreams into diplomas at its 24th graduation
The Namibian College of Open Learning (NAMCOL) hosted its 24th graduation ceremony at the Yetu Yama Campus in Windhoek on 16 April 2025. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as graduates were joined by family and friends who came in full force to witness this milestone.The event began with welcoming remarks by NAMCOL’s newly appointed chief executive Ngephathimo Kadhila, who commended the graduates for their resilience and commitment. Kadhila also introduced the theme for this year’s graduation, “Navigating Economic Uncertainty in a Changing World”.
“As I officiate my first graduation as CEO, I envision the Namibian College of Open Learning evolving into an educational hub renowned not only for academic and vocational excellence but also for nurturing globally competitive citizens,” Kadhila said.
The Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp, delivered her inaugural address as minister.
In her speech, Steenkamp encouraged graduates not only to seek employment but to create it. “As we reflect on this milestone, I urge you not only to seek employment but to create it. Be entrepreneurs, the digital innovators, the leaders in your communities.”
Steenkamp’s words set the tone for a day filled with celebration, inspiration and a well-earned sense of accomplishment.
This graduation not only marked a joyous occasion but was also a historical event as the first cohort of students graduated with a Bachelor of Education in early childhood development and an Honours degree in pre-primary education - a giant step in the country's educational sector .
