The Grade 12B class of 2002 from Westside High School got together in Swakopmund for a 22-year reunion. The event was filled with fun, memories, and giving back to their old school.
As part of the reunion, the group donated N$10 000 to help with the school’s development projects. A former classmate, now living in the USA, also promised to create and sponsor a school website to improve communication and the school’s online presence.
One classmate, who is an author, donated six books she has written to the school library, giving students more resources to read and learn.
The former learners paid a visit to the school and took a quick tour around the school. They looked at ongoing projects which the school has embarked on, and noted areas that needed improvement within the school itself.
AUakotora Murangi Gomez, one of the organizers who now lives in the USA, explained the goal of the reunion saying, "We wanted to reconnect as a class, visit and give back to the school that helped shape us, and build a community of former students who support each other," she said.
The group encouraged other past students from different years to do the same and support Westside High School.
The reunion was not only about reconnecting but also about making a difference for the school and future students.
