Affies Park in Windhoek witnessed an exhilarating sporting weekend as teams from across the country met up to compete in the highly anticipated Metropolitan Gravity Cup 2023. With various sports codes on display, the event showcased a remarkable display of talent and teamwork, as well as fierce competition.
Hockey champions
On the hockey court, the Windhoek High School Boys U19 first team emerged as champions, claiming first place. Their skill and determination were evident on their way to securing the win.
St. George’s earned a well-deserved second place, with Etosha Secondary School taking the third position.
The under-19 girls’ category was equally intense, with St. Paul’s taking the top spot. Pro-Ed Academy’s first team and Pro-Ed Academy’s second team secured second and third places, respectively, in a closely contested competition.
Netball excellence
The netball finals for the under-19 category were nothing short of thrilling.
The Ella du Plessis team took the first position, showcasing their team coordination. A. Shipena Secondary School displayed commendable skills to secure the runner-up spot, while Windhoek High School, this season’s winners of the Capricorn Group Schools Netball League, claimed the third position.
Rugby sevens rivalry
M&K Gertze emerged victorious, showcasing their strength and agility on the field. Windhoek Technical High School put up a valiant effort to secure the second position.
It was a contest where the schools could only aspire to be first or second, making the achievement all the more impressive.
Soccer six-a-side showdown
In the six-a-side football category, the competition was equally intense. Northern travellers Otjikoto Secondary School fought hard to win first place, beating Academia Secondary School, who put up a spirited effort, earning them the second position in a tightly contested battle that had spectators on the edge of their seats.
The Metropolitan Gravity Cup 2023 was a celebration of talent and sportsmanship, with teams giving their all for their school teams.
