CHECKMATE: The Bank Windhoek 2024 national chess championships qualifiers concluded on Sunday at the Nictus Cultural Centre in Windhoek. The event included open and women’s sections. According to the Namibia Chess Federation, the top five from the two sections will be participating in the closed Namibia chess championship for the chance to play in the Olympic chess games later in the year. The top five from the open section are Uatiavi Jossy Uapingene, who dominated the list, followed by Ndoroma Christopher, Goodwill Khoa, Simon Hatwiikulipi Shidolo and Max Baron Nitzborn. In the women’s section, Keisha van Wyk reigned supreme, followed by Jamie-Nicole Beukes, Celeste Swartz, Patience Tsuses and Linekela Itembu.Photo: Contributed
