Rugby: PK keeps winning
The PK senior rugby team has been dominating the field this year after a challenging season in 2023. The team entered 2024 with winning on their minds.Their first impressive performance came in a friendly match against Suiderlig back in March, which they won.
This victory sparked excitement, restoring pride and confidence in the team. However, some sceptics dismissed it as merely a “lucky win.” These doubts were quickly silenced when the senior team secured gold at the Governor’s Cup held in Rosh Pinah on 4 April.
I asked Hafeni Silas, the vice-captain, what contributed to the team’s winning streak.
He attributed their success to increased commitment, respect for the game, and improved communication.
The senior team faced off against a combined team of players from KPS and Suiderlig, resulting in a draw. However, the focus of these trials wasn't on the score; instead, it was an opportunity for selectors to recruit players for the Keetmanshoop team. Unsurprisingly, the majority of those selected were from PK de Villiers.
Silas expressed his confidence in the team, saying: “I trust that we will keep our school's name high while playing for the Keetmanshoop team; we will use the same tactics that have been making us win.”.
He had some encouraging words to add: “It is our time to shine,” he said, and I agree. The PK senior rugby team has made us proud, and I have no doubt they will continue to do so. To the players who were selected: keep prevailing and know that you’re excellent, and it is your time to rise and shine.
