Selma ready to Newspaper Cup

Mweshipandeka Senior Secondary School has long been dedicated to sports, from internal tournaments to prestigious events like the Newspaper Cup.
Among the school's most promising athletes is Selma Nghipuxungi (16), a talented netball player who is eager to make her mark on a bigger stage.
The 2025 Newspaper Cup is set to take place from 18 to 21 April in Outjo. This annual event, sponsored by Nedbank, gathers representatives from all 14regions of Namibia.
Mupehipandeka's netball and soccer teams will depart for the event on the 18th.
Nghipuxungi expressed her excitement for this year's tournament. "Last year, I wasn’t able to play because of my age, but I always dreamed of being on the court. This year, luck is on my side, and I finally get the chance to compete," she shared. The Newspaper Cup offers young talents an opportunity to gain national exposure and recognition in the world of sports.
Nghipuxungi is also looking forward to meeting potential sponsors beyond Nedbank and experiencing the town of Outjo for the first time. "I’m hoping it will be a great experience," she added. Although she faced challenges during the trials, she is grateful for the chance to have emerged victorious. To her, this tournament is more than just about winning; it's a platform to meet new people, gain experience, and move closer to her dream of becoming a national player.
The Oshana regional team secured second place in last year’s competition. After analysing their performance and identifying areas for improvement, they have developed new strategies and techniques that they hope will bring success this time around.
Nghipuxungi remains confident in her team's abilities. "We will make the impossible possible and do everything we can to bring the trophy home. Even if we don’t win, we will cherish the experience and enjoy every moment," she concluded.
