The race of champions
The dragon boat competition took place on 2 March, pitting classes against each other in a quest for the prestigious title of dragon boat champions.Set against the stunning backdrop of Heya Lodge’s dam, the learners gathered in the early morning, clad in their class colours, ready for an exhilarating day ahead. With chants echoing across the lake, teams eagerly lined up. They were propelled by a blend of skill and determination. Under the attentive gaze of classmates, rowers navigated the waters with precision, each stroke propelling them closer to victory. Spectators lined the shores, offering unwavering support as the intense competition unfolded.
Despite gusty winds and choppy waters, learners exhibited remarkable resilience. As the day progressed, the rivalry intensified, with nail-biting races keeping spectators on edge. Finally, amid thunderous applause, the winning class’ Watermeisters for the juniors and High Tides for the seniors were crowned. Not only did they showcase their athletic prowess, but also a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship. The event served as a testament to the dedication and competitive spirit of Gimmie learners, fostering a sense of unity within the school community.
As the sun set on the dam, it marked not only the conclusion of a competition, but the beginning of lasting memories and friendships.
