Pursuing a passion in property management

Gabriel Kaulihowa, a final-year bachelor of accounting honours student at the University of Namibia, has embarked on an internship with Oryx Property Management.
His interest in property management, combined with his academic background in accounting, has set him on a path toward a career in real estate.
Kaulihowa explained that his education has prepared him for this internship.
"My studies have equipped me with a solid foundation in accounting principles, financial management and analytical skills, all of which are crucial for a career in property management," he said.
Furthermore, his coursework and practical experience have helped him develop problem-solving abilities and attention to detail – essential skills in this field.

Attraction to Oryx
When asked why he applied for the bursary and internship with Oryx Property Management, Kaulihowa said: "I was attracted to the bursary and internship opportunity because of the unique partnership it offers, which will allow me to grow my career in the property industry.’’
During his internship, Kaulihowa hopes to gain practical experience at the intersection of finance and property.
He emphasised the importance of enhancing his skills in financial analysis and reporting, as they are crucial for making informed decisions in the real estate market.
His focus is on bridging her academic knowledge with practical insights to prepare for his future career.
Kaulihowa views the internship as a stepping stone to achieving his long-term career goals in property management.
"This internship will provide me with valuable practical experience and industry insights that are essential for my long-term career goals in property management.

Qualities needed
Kaulihowa shared his thoughts on the qualities needed for success.
"Key qualities for success include strong analytical skills, attention to detail, excellent communication and the ability to work under pressure," he explained.
Handling pressure is part of any job in the corporate space, and Kaulihowa shared his approach. "I handle working under pressure by staying organised, prioritising tasks and maintaining a positive attitude. I also make sure to take regular breaks to avoid burnout and keep my mind fresh," he said.
Kaulihowa shared a quote that he lives by: "Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful." For him, this quote by Albert Schweitzer encapsulates the importance of finding joy in one's career.

Hobbies
Outside of his academic and professional pursuits, Kaulihowa finds joy in staying active and engaging with people.
He enjoys playing soccer, which helps him develop teamwork skills and stay active.
Additionally, he has an interest in having conversations with people from different professions and fields of study, which allows him to learn from a diverse range of perspectives.
