Veronica Kamati, a client service team leader at Old Mutual Namibia, embodies dedication, perseverance and a genuine passion for serving others. Born in Tsumeb, Kamati's journey from humble beginnings to her current leadership role is a testament to her unwavering commitment to excellence.
Before joining Old Mutual, Kamati pursued her studies at the University of Namibia (Unam) while balancing the responsibilities of starting a family. Her career path took a pivotal turn when she joined the works ministry where she discovered her "innate talent for problem-solving and client service”, she said.
This realisation propelled her towards Old Mutual in 1997, initially as a financial advisor. Today, as a client service team leader overseeing six
branches across Namibia, her responsibilities are multifaceted. She ensures the seamless operation of client services, handles complex queries and complaints, motivates her team, offers coaching and training.
Kamati sees herself not only as a leader, but also as a mentor, providing guidance and accountability to her team members. Her journey with Old Mutual has been marked by dedication and a deep-rooted commitment to making a positive impact. Despite the absence of traditional career advancements within client service, she finds fulfillment in solving problems, satisfying customers, nurturing relationships, and witnessing the growth of her team.
Among her many accomplishments, Kamati cherishes the opportunity to participate in strategic meetings, where she advocates for the recognition of client service achievements beyond sales metrics. “I take pride in staff retention, motivating my team members to excel, fostering a culture of excellence, and celebrating the successes of team members who pursue career advancements outside of client services,” she said.
Old Mutual has played a significant role in her professional and personal growth, providing extensive training and mentorship opportunities. She acknowledges the invaluable guidance of mentors like Nardi Black, whose support extended beyond professional development to personal finance management. Outside of her professional life, she finds joy in simple pleasures like walking barefoot in her home village and immersing herself in a good book. She draws inspiration from nature and values the wisdom shared by elders. For new employees joining Old Mutual, Kamati offers a timeless piece of advice: “Invest in excellent service – it pays off now, tomorrow, and for many years to come".
