EFN awards top journos
Lazarus Amukeshe of The Namibian was named Journalist of the Year at the annual Editors Forum of Namibia Journalism Awards 2023 (EFN Awards).The evening's guest speaker was the award-winning investigative journalist Jacques Pauw, who wrote books such as "Our Poisoned Land" and "The President's Keeper". He sketched a sobering picture of the political situation in South Africa.
The world-renowned historian, Professor Yuval Noah Harari, also spoke via video call about the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in the media.
As guest of honour at this year's awards, President Hage Geingob affirmed the freedom of the press as one of the most important pillars of democracy. He said that press freedom was one of the goals fought for the Namibian people.
Geingob also confirmed that media freedom is guaranteed in Namibia as long as he is President.
