Jayden, Johannes and Gustaf let the light shine in
They could be lying in front of the television and playing games on their cellphones, but three 13-year-old boys from Swakopmund chose to get on their bikes and wash the windows of the coastal town’s “baby home” – for free!Armed with buckets and soap, Jayden Matthys, Johannes Emuno and Gustaf Shikongo arrived at the Ruach Elohim Foundation on Sunday to wash the windows of the home for vulnerable and abandoned babies. Usually, the three boys ride their bikes and supplies all over town to wash windows for N$200, but this time they decided to do it “for free for the babies”.
“It knocked my feet out from under me,” says Ronel Peters, Ruach Elohim’s founder and temporary mother to the home’s young residents. “I couldn’t believe that 13-year-old boys would want to do this.”
According to her, one of the three told two friends about Swakopmund’s baby home and it was decided to wash the windows of the temporary home and haven for free. “And we have a lot of windows! I feel like you have to give them credit and honour and show people out there what young boys who could lie in front of the television and play games on their phones look like, but who choose to do something for someone else,” Ronel said.
She was also able to show the boys the temporary home’s baby box and introduce them to all the little residents and explain the activities and goals of Ruach Elohim.
“I was able to show and explain and now they go out and tell others.” – [email protected]
