Republikein bids editor Dani Booysen farewell
After 20 years as a journalist and more than nine years in the editor's seat at Republikein, Namibia Media Holdings (NMH) bid farewell to Dani Booysen (51) in this capacity last week.In future he will be involved on a part-time basis as presenter of Kletskompas and other NTV programmes, and will continue behind the microphone as a sports commentator during live sports broadcasts on weekends.
Booysen will also be involved in training and system implementation at NMH.
“Dani's role as editor of Republikein was more than just being in charge of one of three Afrikaans daily newspapers in the world. He was a champion for diversity in Namibia – and not just language diversity. He also made sure that the diverse interest in everything from schools, education, sports, culture, tourism and the voice of the country and especially its people, was heard,” NMH chief executive Albe Botha said.
Booysen, who was a teacher for almost eight years before joining Republikein says it was a privilege to be part of two decades in which print media underwent dramatic change. “This happened with the use of additional platforms to tell stories and serve customers. I learned an incredible amount in the process,” Booysen said.
“I thank my team and management for their support. Thanks also to everyone with whom I have been able to work over the years, as well as every reader, source and newsmaker I've met on my journey. I am proud to say that I learned something from everyone - not just the big names like the Des Erasmusse and the Jacobies of the media industry. Republikein will always exist as one of the important voices of Afrikaans in Namibia. And change, we will continue to change, as the world and new generations' needs evolve.”
