Uncle Bob remains loved

More than 250 friends of the Sissing family attended the tombstone unveiling of the late Bobby Sissing in Pionierspark last weekend.
"Uncle Bob's" death at the age of 79 in July 2021 was a loss for football in Namibia - a cause to which he dedicated his life.
Role players in the football community have been campaigning for years for the Khomasdal Stadium to be named after Bobby Sissing and this point of discussion gained new momentum during the unveiling. His active role as a political activist before independence is also considered a contributing factor in this regard.
The Khomasdal stadium was previously just a gravel field and Sissing was the man who saw to it that a grass was planted and that the fence and wall were erected around it, before the clubhouse was also built in later years.
Another of his hobbies was to set up football teams in Khomasdal, such as Maritz United and later Atlanta Chiefs and Arsenal, and he also attracted good players from South Africa to play for his teams who captured the imagination of the local crowds.
From his marriage to Anna, ten children were born, of whom nine are still alive. His legacy may also soon live on with at least one of his young grandsons looking like a promising footballer player.
