Scholarships available in Hungary for young agricultural professionals
African applicants from select countries like Namibia are eligible to apply for a Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Hungarian government scholarship programme.Three scholarships are available for two-year postgraduate study in fields including environmental engineering, crop production engineering or horticultural engineering for promising students from developing and middle-income countries.
For over 15 years, the Hungary-sponsored FAO scholarship programme has been offering young professionals from developing countries the opportunity to widen and deepen their knowledge. Those accepted will pursue studies at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences in Budapest or at the University of Sopron.
The scholarship covers application and tuition fees, basic books, dormitory accommodation, subsistence costs and health insurance.
The deadline for applications is 29 February, for the academic year starting in September.
In the years the programme has been running, about 400 young professionals have benefitted from the scholarship. Upon return to their home countries, their degrees helped them find jobs and launch their careers as new “agricultural ambassadors.” They also have become part of a global professional network of their fellow scholars and their professors.
