Community heroes celebrated

In celebration of Heroes Day, more than 30 employees from Capricorn Group hosted an event last week to honour project leaders and volunteers from various local initiatives and organisations. This heartfelt gesture was a tribute to the selfless efforts of community heroes who tirelessly address ongoing needs through their dedicated work.
The event brought together over 40 community heroes representing 30 different initiatives and charitable organisations. It was a day of recognition and appreciation for these unsung heroes—caregivers, employees, and volunteers—who consistently go above and beyond, often without rewards, to support vulnerable groups such as youth, children, the elderly, and abandoned animals. Their mission is to transform lives and create lasting, positive change.
The celebration underscored the strong partnership between Capricorn Group and the communities it serves. The event featured a range of engaging activities, including a mini skills-building workshop where Capricorn employees shared their expertise in financial management, project management, and social media marketing.
Attendees also enjoyed group games, meals, and beverages, with opportunities for relaxation provided by manicure stations and a summer-smart smoothie-making session. The day concluded with a special awards ceremony, highlighting outstanding achievements in community service. The atmosphere was filled with gratitude and camaraderie, allowing employees and community heroes to connect on a deeper level.
“As we commemorate the pivotal contributions of those who laid the foundation for our nation, we also wish to recognise the significant impact of our community heroes who continue to drive societal progress. We are committed to fostering the strength of our community through collaboration, and this initiative is a testament to our dedication to promoting kindness and positive change,” said Marlize Horn, Group Executive of Brand & Corporate Affairs and Executive Officer of the Capricorn Foundation.
Reflecting on the event, Tomas Shilongo from Men on the Side of the Road (MSR) shared, “I connected with many people from other organisations. It was indeed good to be taken care of, and we will continue to support our communities in the best way that we can.” Rina Schwartz, caretaker at Eastern Court Old Age Home in Klein Windhoek, added, “I have learnt quite a lot, and I will put it all into action in the future.”
