Last Saturday, Elago Nantana began an eleven-day walking tour from Okahandja to Walvis Bay.
For him it's not just a physical challenge; he aims to raise awareness about issues such as suicide, depression, anxiety, addiction and mental well-being.
This walking tour is known as the "Mental Peace Walk, walking for peace in Namibia" and aims to unite communities, promote peace and create hope, especially in an election year "which is characterised by increased social tension".
In his appeal for support, Elago asked for the cooperation of local authorities, municipalities and community members along the route to ensure that he moves safely through their areas.
The presence of one hiker with camping gear could raise concerns, so advance notifications and coordinated efforts from relevant stakeholders are essential, he said.
The aim is to promote a safe environment, not only for him, but also for the community members who want to join him.
Mental health
During his walking tour, Elago will document his experiences through video recordings, which will be shared on various social media platforms.
These aim to highlight the positive impact of physical activity on mental well-being, showcase the natural beauty of Namibia and emphasise the route's underlying message of peace and unity.
In addition, Elago will promote "The Delivery Room Mental Health Booklet" - a valuable resource that provides support, inspiration and practical advice to individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
The booklet emphasises the value of seeking help, practicing self-care and finding strength in one's faith and personal journey.
According to Elago, this walking tour serves as a powerful reminder of the need for harmony, unity and a better future as Namibia approaches the elections. Regardless of the political outcomes, Elago encourages the nation to uphold their values of peace, community and faith.
"The love of Jesus Christ assures everyone that they are winners," he said.
