Empowering responsible men

The Capricorn Foundation, in partnership with Capacity Grow and the Response Action-based Organisation, hosted a day-and-a-half event called "Empowered Responsible Men" on 10 and 11 September. Sponsored by the Capricorn Foundation, the initiative aimed to equip men with emotional intelligence and a sense of responsibility, empowering them to be role models in their communities.
Fifteen men from various areas, including Hakahana, Otjomuise, and Groot Aub, were selected to participate. They received training in conflict management, communication, leadership, emotional intelligence, and stress management. The participants were also provided with tools to share this training within their communities, amplifying the programme's impact.
Siegfried Lange, Director of Capacity Grow, emphasized the importance of equipping men to manage emotions and take responsibility, highlighting the negative effects of emotional mismanagement on communities. He noted that the initiative seeks to improve men's mental health, family dynamics, and societal contributions.
The collaboration between Capacity Grow and the Response Action-based Organisation stemmed from a shared understanding of the need to support men in managing emotions and embracing their societal roles. Marlize Horn, Executive Officer of the Capricorn Foundation, stated that the foundation is committed to fostering positive change by supporting men’s emotional well-being and accountability.
The "Empowered Responsible Men" programme aims to create a sustainable ripple effect, nurturing stronger, more resilient communities. If successful in Windhoek’s informal areas, it could expand to other parts of Namibia, with the goal of building a critical mass of empowered men who positively influence their families, peers, and communities.
