Paying it forward

In a gesture of appreciation, a group of 30 Capricorn employees recognised and celebrated different community heroes, project leaders and volunteers from various community projects, centres and organisations by hosting a day in their honour.
The group recognises that local charities make a phenomenal contribution to communities to try and alleviate their ongoing needs through selfless deeds. Caregivers, workers, and volunteers at the different organisations go out of their way with little to no incentives to help vulnerable youth, the elderly, abandoned animals, etc., with an objective to change lives and make a positive impact.
The event, which took place on Friday, 25 August, aimed to recognise and honour the contributions of these unsung heroes, further showcasing the strong collaboration between Capricorn Group and the community in which it operates. More than 26 community projects and charities were represented on the day.
As part of the celebration, Capricorn’s Changemakers had a chance to pay it forward to community heroes by carrying out planned activities such as team challenges, game interactions, sharing meals, and distributing care packages.
The Changemakers also shared their expertise in budgeting, risk management, marketing, social media management and fundraising with the community heroes. The day was filled with gratitude and camaraderie, providing a platform for Changemakers and community heroes to connect on a deeper level.
“As we reflect on the heroic deed of individuals who helped us attain nationhood, we also take time to celebrate the invaluable contribution of our community heroes to society,” said Marlize Horn of the Capricorn Foundation.
“We believe in the power of community and collaboration, and this initiative shows the positive impact that can be achieved when individuals and organisations come together to create more acts of kindness and goodwill,” she added.
“What a wonderful morning we had! Thank you for all the hard work you put into the morning. We appreciated being spoilt,” said Pat Sivertsen, manager at Women@Work, sentiments echoed by S.P.E.S spokesperson, Esmé Coetzee, who said: “These are the moments written up in heaven where He sees us, blessing those who least expect it. May He bless your heart and remind you that the difference you make echoes in eternity. Thank you for being faithful.”
The group encouraged more companies to keep supporting the good initiatives of organisations across the country to enable them to keep meeting the needs on the ground.
