Steps for disability

A group of persons with disabilities walked 6.2 km from B1 City People’s Mall to the National Museum of Namibia on Saturday.
This was the second awareness walk for people with disabilities under the theme “I am not less, but I am different”.
According to Josef Sheehama, the goal was to convey that people with disabilities are capable of doing things. “The Namibia Affirmative Action Act is regrettably ineffective and requires reform, the message is clear: encourage equality in the workplace.”
He said, that in addition to promoting equal opportunity, the Act was intended to address past disabilities people experienced.
“It is imperative that the National Disability Council work harder and that Members of Parliament actively advocate for persons with disabilities. Due to ineffectiveness, the significance of individuals with disabilities is overlooked. People with disabilities are not included in the strategies developed by companies or in the manifestos of political parties,” he said.
