Pensioners do it for themselves

Residents of the Eastern Court nursing home in Windhoek decided to put up a new gate themselves.
According to the caretaker, Elizabeth du Plessis, the old wire gate that provides access to the premises was very old and vandalized, and no longer safe.
“The gate was scraping on the ground and was difficult to open and close. It didn't look very pretty either. I contacted the relevant government institution responsible for renovation and repairs but to no avail. I then decided to ask the residents themselves for help and 12 of them immediately agreed and contributed financially.”
Uncle Tommie Bezuidenhout (90), who always does minor repairs at Eastern Court, was approached and he simply decided to donate the gate.
The new gate is made of iron that can be easily opened and closed. – [email protected]
