Rehoboth se baken van hoop

A charity organisation for children and youth missions in Rehoboth seeks assistance and support from the town council and the community to establish a multi-purpose skills training centre in the town.
According to the founders of the Lighthouse Children and Youth Ministry, Kenneth and Gerlinda Shipipa-Bruijnes, they would like the council's permission to erect structures and add extensions to an erf in Block E which is initially intended for agricultural training.
The dream is to expand beyond agriculture and offer development programmes for vulnerable children.
"We would like permission to provide opportunities for the youth to learn practical trades, such as welding, carpentry, computer science, hospitality, sewing, cooking and catering as well as beauty services," the couple says.
The founders emphasised their commitment to changing the lives of vulnerable young people.
"Our goal is to equip these children with skills that can lead to employment opportunities and self-sufficiency.
"The centre will serve as a haven where pupils can do their homework and research."
The organisation was founded in 2020 and provides comprehensive care to more than 150 youth under various development programmes.
"We have 20 local staff members who help to look after the emotional, physical, spiritual and educational well-being of needy young people," Kenneth says.
According to him, growth and development are the core of Lighthouse's vision, emphasising that it is not only about meeting today's needs but also about investing in the future.
"Our goal is to help these young people grow into responsible adults who can carry the weight of their own lives. In turn, they must contribute positively to the community."
Lighthouse's development programmes include aftercare and youth clubs and currently also offer agricultural training and sewing skills.
The Young and Pregnant training programme is also offered three times a year in collaboration with the Mommaluv Foundation and provides education to pregnant teenage girls on pre- and postnatal care to ensure a better start for their babies. - [email protected]
