RuralRevive changing lives

The Capricorn Foundation is making a positive impact through its support of community projects that promote sustainability and self-reliance.
Recently, the foundation celebrated its partnership with the RuralRevive Initiative at its 3rd Anniversary in Maltahöhe, acknowledging the initiative’s progress over the past three years. The Capricorn Foundation pledged N$1 million in March last year to support economic advancement and sustainable development in the village, with a focus on the Horticulture Training Programme, Trading Hub, Economix Programme, and Community-Driven Waste Management System.
Marlize Horn, Executive Officer of the Capricorn Foundation, expressed pride in the collaboration, highlighting how RuralRevive empowers the community with the tools to become self-reliant while addressing unemployment and poverty. The initiative's efforts have shown how collaboration can strengthen Namibia’s desert regions and foster an inclusive economy.
RuralRevive celebrated its anniversary with a successful clean-up campaign in Maltahöhe, where over 200 community members collected 2.5 tonnes of waste. Participants, including Classic Group, Stuk Is Een, All Stars, and Jeremias, were recognised for keeping the town clean.
Sustainable economy
RuralRevive, a project by the Wolwedans Foundation, is focused on building a sustainable economy in Namibia’s desert regions by meeting community needs and protecting the environment. Key programmes include:
• The community-driven waste management system that promotes recycling, waste collection and sorting while creating jobs. It started in August 2024 and employs four full-time workers;
• The horticulture training and trading hub which helps local farmers grow and sell organic produce, supporting the local economy;
• The Economix Programme, which empowers micro-entrepreneurs with business planning and networking skills;
• The upcoming Maltahöhe Desert Academy will provide training in hospitality, horticulture and life skills; and
• The laundry service that was launched in January 2023, creating jobs by serving 20 lodges in the region.
Stephan Brückner, Chairman of the Wolwedans Foundation, thanked the Capricorn Foundation for its invaluable contribution to the initiative’s success. “The journey towards sustainable community transformation is ongoing, and we are excited about the future of our collaboration.”
