Skytents, a subsidiary of RND Holdings (Pty) Ltd donated tents, mattresses and blankets to the northern flood relief, to around 20 households after the plea from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) during her northern visit. The donation was accepted by Fillipus Shilongo, chief regional officer of Ohangwena Regional Council, on behalf of the governor.
Prime Minister Saara Kuungongwela Amadhila recently undertook a three-day trip to regions impacted by Angolan floodwaters. Her final destination was the Outapi constituency’s flood-prone districts. The OPM provided a few items during the trip and further appealed for assistance from the public and private sector to ease the plight faced by residents of the affected areas.
At the handover, Hellen Likando, Director Risk Management at the OPM, expressed their appreciation towards the private and public sector and its commitment to the national call. “We have received donations from various sectors and it is great seeing unity from industry leaders to fast track restoring the livelihoods of our citizens.”
She added that many families and especially children have been impacted, and it has negatively affected the school curriculum.
According to RND Holdings Managing Director, Regto David, the company will continue to be dedicated to helping Namibian citizens, clients, communities, and government in the country's endeavour to lessen the negative economic and social effects of the floods.
RND Holdings engages in several charity and goodwill endeavours, frequently by being on the ground to see where the need is most and to respond.
Receiving the donation, Shilongo commended RND Holdings for its kind contributions, saying that RND's assistance has a positive social and economic impact.
He added that while food donations are still needed, most of the schools have reopened.
