Eleven Arrows Football Club recently paid tribute to its top performers during the 2023/2024 season.The Walvis Bay based club competed in the NFA’s Southern Stream First Division, finished in the third spot on the log with 38 points.
The award recipients included winger Carlos Antonio (players’ player of the season), centre back Jase Shimpanda (best defender), striker Kuija Tjitjiheiue (top goal scorer with 10 goals), anchorman Paulus Shanyenga (best midfielder) and Andrew Pendukeni as best goalkeeper.
Patrick “Serero” Nabeb scored the best goal of the season against Black Africa in a match played at Jan Wilken Stadium.
Arrows, under the guidance of Rudolph Bester, recorded 11 wins, five draws and six defeats in the recently concluded campaign.
The Arrows hit the the back of the net on 58 occasions making the team's attack the most lethal in the league, while they conceded 19 goals.
Keynote speaker Zane Jansen, a die-hard Eleven Arrows supporter and representative of Omahooli Solutions Engineering Contractors, a longstanding sponsor of the club, told the players and officials that the final position of the former premier league club finished is unacceptable.
“We need to have a serious talk with the club management. We know you fought until the end, but as a sponsor we want Eleven Arrows to take up its rightful place in the Premier League.
“We are with the club as sponsors, because we believe there is enough potential to play and compete in the country's elite league. We need to play to win.”
Jansen called on the club members to do some soul-searching.
“We have to find the cause of our relegation. We also need to look each other in the eyes and devise a strategy to ensure our promotion to top-flight football, because that is where we rightfully belong. This must be done before the start of the next season.”
He also pledged Omahoolis Solutions continued commitment to the team.
“You can have peace of mind in that regard. We do not have any plans to move away from the club. We are passionate about the players and it is our motto to help. We started assisting the club a couple of years ago and will continue doing so for years to come.
“We will look into the financial side of things, the uniformity of the club and the honouring of our league commitments.”
Head coach Rudolph Bester commended his charges for the effort they had put in and said the defenders carried the team this season.
“We will have to beef up our striking department and need to search for new players in the off-season. Despite creating many chances, we failed to score and allowed opponents to come back in games. We need to be clinical and must double up our efforts. Management will determine the way forward.”
