The first in a series of OTB and African Marketing beach volleyball competitions took place this weekend at the DTS sport fields in Windhoek.
A total of 39 teams entered, which included youth under-17, men, women and the social two–a-side teams. In addition to the various teams that entered, the youth under-17 team included first-time players as well.
The men's category was contested by 16 teams, while eight youth teams, eight social two-a-side teams and seven women's teams also duked it out.
The competition was organised by DTS, Afrocats and the Namibian Volleyball Federation.
The next competition in the series will take place in Swakopmund in July.
According to tournament director Heiko Kesselmann, the exact dates have not been decided yet.
Meanwhile, the last games in the series will take place in the north at the end of the year.

International competition
The teams will gather points in the various games, from which a ranking will be created, Kesselmann explained.
“We will also have an international competition, where we will determine who will be representing Namibia outside the country.”
First-time player Leander Mueller said his game went well, and saw him and his team-mate emerge victorious.
“I've kept the score before, but this was one of my first games."
One of the teams present over the weekend was Afrocats. Player Julia Haufiku said her team’s game went quite well, with some challenges experienced in defending the ball and keeping it up in the air, a term referred to as digging.
