Namibian elite cyclist Alex Miller and newcomer Louise Breed triumphed in the first Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power race of 2025. The road cycling season opener took place at Teufels Schlucht near Windhoek on Sunday, drawing over 150 participants, including six male and five female teams.

Miller won in a dramatic photo finish, clocking 2:24:39, narrowly ahead of Drikus Coetzee and Justus Beulker, who both finished with the same time. In the elite women's race, Breed claimed victory in 2:26:01, just ahead of Anri Krugel-Greeff and Olivia Shililifa, who both finished in 2:26:02.

In the men’s team rankings, CYMOT Racing Team, Team MBM, and Hollard Elite shared first place. For the women, Hollard Ladies topped the standings, followed by Food Lovers Market Ladies Team and CYMOT Ladies Racing Team.

Miller expressed his excitement at the win and looked forward to his upcoming season in Europe with a new Italian team, focusing on the UCI Gravel series. Due to this, he will miss this year’s national championships.

Breed, who started cycling seven months ago, was thrilled with her win in her first road race. She attributed her victory to the flat route and a decisive sprint finish. Her goal for the year is to improve her time in the 2025 Nedbank Desert Dash.

Windhoek Pedal Power Cycling Club representative Stefanus Feris praised the event's success and high competition levels, anticipating an exciting 2025 season. Nedbank Namibia’s Selma Kaulinge commended the cyclists’ performance and the growing talent in the sport.

The next race is scheduled for Sunday, 19 January, at Copperkettle in Windhoek.
