Corporates battle for glory in CVSL's 11th season finale
As the sun sets on another thrilling season, the Corporate Volleyball Social League (CVSL) final matches and prize-giving ceremony will be held at the Independence Stadium this Saturday. The competition’s 11th season kicked off in April, sponsored by Khevare Action Capital Investment (KACI) and the Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF). This weekend once again promises an ultimate showdown of skill, strategy and sheer determination.
Employees from 28 organisations nationwide will compete for bragging rights, a floating trophy, N$6 000 in prize money, gold medals and the team of the season award. The second- and third-place finishers will secure N$5 000 and N$4 000 in prize money, as well as silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Former winners
Last season, the Namibia Training Authority (NTA) team reigned supreme with 66 points, ahead of Agribank in second place with 63 points, and Cassa Demolishers securing third, also with 63 points and separated only on technicalities.
Speaking to this publication, former league winner Anne-Marie Ndilimeke Akawa, the NTA team captain, expressed her excitement for the upcoming competition, wishing the champion all the best.
She urged organisers to consider allowing at least two registered players on the court per team next season.
“At the end of the day, all participants are employees of the company. I am so proud of our team and how far we have come from last season when we scooped the champions and team of the season trophies,” she said.
The grand finale promises a total of 10 matches per team out of the overall 27 games, which will kick off at 08:00 until 19:00.
Log leaders AgriBank team will go up against KACI in the first match, with current runners-up Team Juxta facing Monasa Advisory and third-placed Casa De Cambio going up against Millennium Investment Holdings.
Plans to open for all
Competition organiser Albert Khevare said there is a lot of interest in corporate volleyball and to hit the 11-season milestone is a great achievement.
He said NVF plans to open corporate volleyball for all individuals across the country in their respective regions so they also get to compete in the beautiful game.
He implored more companies to sign up for the next season in March 2025, to compete and join the rest. “The highest office of the country is also competing. I am inviting the audience to come to support their mothers and fathers,” he said.
He said more than 20 volunteers contribute to make the competition run smoothly, while three interns majoring in sports management and marketing have been employed.
