Four out of the six national age records to be broken last weekend are behind the name of Oliver Durand.
Oliver Durand and Jessica Humphrey were the individual stars of the show at last weekend’s Bank Windhoek national long-course swimming championships presented by the Namibian Aquatics Sports Federation (Nasfed) at the Olympia municipal pool. The pair were named senior victor and victrix ludorum, shortly after their return from recently representing the country at the FINA world championship in Qatar, followed by the African Games in Ghana where Humphrey won a bronze medal in the 200 backstroke.
While 16-year-old Durand left his mark by improving four national age group records for boys 15-16, it was Humphrey (15) who delivered the top two individual performances of the four-day championship.
Thirteen-year-old Rodney Feris (Aqua Swimming Club) took the junior victor ludorum trophy, while Sandra Schnebel (12, Dolphin) was awarded the junior victrix ludorum prize.
In the combined team scores of the male and female events, Dolphins (3615 points) was unmatched even when combining the efforts of Aqua (2182), third-placed Flippers (219), Marlins (193), Oranjemund Sand Sharks (142) and Swakopmund Swimming Club (25).
A number of Paralympic swimmers including Namasiku van der Linden and Caitlin Botha also competed at the championship.
