The two teams placed at the top of the Erongo First Division Netball League, are tied with a four-point difference separating them from the third and fourth-placed teams which are also tied on points.

Sparta I (first) and Eleven Arrows (second) currently share the top spot with Blue Girls (third) and Blue Waters (fourth) in hot pursuit. Eleven teams are competing in the league. The two pace setters will clash in what promises to be a mouthwatering fixture at the MTC Dome netball courts on 19 October 2024. This game will form part of the Namibia Sport Expo being hosted in Swakopmund from 17 October to 20 October.

The heat is on
Before that, Eleven Arrows will have to be in top shape and on target for their clash with Blue Girls this weekend in Kuisebmond. A win would ensure that Arrows occupies the top spot while Sparta I will have a game in hand.

As things stand, both Sparta I and Eleven Arrows collected 26 points from 13 wins and one defeat after 13 matches. Sparta I enjoys a superior goal difference of 416 after scoring 784 and conceding 348 goals. Eleven Arrows scored 679 and conceded 326 goals for a goal difference of 250.

“It is very seldom that netball teams play to a draw and we did not have any yet for this season. It can however happen especially when two very competitive teams have a go at each other,” said Michelle Brooks, a match commissioner for the Erongo First Division Netball League.

Blue Girls is placed in third position with 22 points (11 wins and two defeats from 13 games), due to a superior goal difference over Blue Waters, which is placed fourth, also with 22 points (11 wins and four losses from 15 games).

Other games scheduled for 19 October, will see Eleven Arrows taking on Sparta I (10:00), Sparta II playing against Blue Girls (11:20), Dolphin White taking on Eleven Arrows (12:40) and Blue Birds tackling Dolphin Black (14:00). Sparta II will take on Dolphin White (15:20) and Blue Waters will play Blue Girls (16:40).

In other netball related news, the vice-chairperson of the organizing committee for the All Ages Regional Netball Challenge Games, Dimitri Bittler, announced that the event has been postponed to 22 November 2024.

“The games will now take place at Pro-Ed Academy in Swakopmund. This decision was taken after careful deliberation and due to changes in the academic calendar,” Bittler said.

He also deliberated on adjustments which he said were made to streamline the competition and accommodate changes brought by the postponement. “The Erongo Region will field two teams namely the Zone Walvis Bay and Zone Swakopmund. The Khomas Region will also field two teams the Khomas A and Khomas B per age group with the teams reduced to eight players per team. We will keep everybody updated with further details regarding the fixtures and logistics as we approach the new date.”
