A group of Namibian kickboxers intend to make history at the WAKO Africa Continental Championships
Namibian kickboxers are on the brink of making history as they step into the spotlight at the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) Africa Continental Championships for the very first time.The competition, which serves as a selection event for The World Games 2025 to be held in Chengdu, China, is taking place in Gauteng, South Africa, from 9 to 12 December. It will be the largest gathering of African kickboxers on their path to glory. According to Anita Müller, the president of the Namibian Kickboxing Federation, the team from the Land of the Brave is ready to shine and features five extraordinary athletes from the Namibia Martial Arts Academy, trained by Philip Müller.
The athletes are Delano Müller, Giano Alcock, Giandre Potgieter, Ryan Roux, and Liam Blaauw. Delano will make his debut in the international senior division, marking the first time he competes internationally as a senior. The rest of the team will compete in the junior division.
“These top-tier fighters earned their spots through astonishing performances at the recent Desert Storm International competition, showcasing their incredible skill and unwavering resilience. Their dedication and hard work have paved the way for them to represent Namibia at this prestigious event, and the anticipation is palpable. They are ready to showcase their talents on the global stage and bring glory to Namibia,” said Müller.
Ryan expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming competition. “I am truly honoured to participate in the WAKO Africa Continental Championships. I am excited to showcase my talent and to represent my country and club.” Delano added that he was looking forward to an incredible experience. “I feel a blend of excitement and pride to represent my country on such a prestigious platform.”
Müller highlighted that the Namibian Kickboxing Federation, with recognition from the Namibia National Olympic Committee, underscores the significance of the WAKO Africa Continental Championships and Namibia's determination to elevate kickboxing on both national and international stages.
