Khomas Nampol FC says they want to continue making a name for themselves when their paths cross with premier league champions African Stars in the semi-final of the PstBet NFA Cup at Mariental this coming Sunday.
The team has been riding a wave of success ever since gaining promotion to the Debmarine Namibia Premiership.
Their coach Fortune Eichab remains positive that his charges will give the league champions a tough battle, even if they are encountering a different coach and playing style than they did when they met the traditional giants on two occasions in the premier league.
“We want to push for the best result against African Stars, because they are a ball-playing team and we need to make sure that we work harder to make sure we contain them.
“The footballers who return from national duty in the last week’s Fifa World Cup qualifiers (against Liberia and Tunisia) have already trained with the team and they all look fired up for the clash,” Eichab said.
Khomas Nampol beat African Stars 2-0 the last time the two teams met. Stars were however under the leadership of coach Mervin Mbakera at the time.
Stars also got the better of Khomas Nampol with a 3-0 win in the first round of the premier league when the two met.
It is for this reasons coach Eichab remains wary of the threat the league champions poses.
“We know very well that Ronnie Kanalelo is a different coach and our 2-0 win over the last time them last time around will not mean a thing.
“We have to do it this coming weekend and make sure that we get ahead of them,” Eichab added.
The two teams will meet at the Mariental Sports Stadium at 15:00 on Sunday, just after the women’s NFA Cup semi-final between Khomas Nampol Ladies and Beauties FC at 13:00.
PstBet Eeshoke Chula Chula are up against Young Brazilians in the first men’s semi-final at 16:00 on Saturday, as the pride of Oshakati meet the courageous outfit from Karasburg in the far south.
This will be preceded by the first women’s semi-final between FC Ongos Ladies and NUST Babes at 14:00.
