FIG qualifications will enable them to officiate at international competitions.
Four judges from the Namibian Gymnastics Federation’s (NGF) rhythmic gymnastics section departed on Sunday for Johannesburg, South Africa, to take part in the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Brevet judges’ exam from Monday to Thursday. The qualification will enable them to officiate at FIG-sanctioned competitions. The course, fully funded by the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC), will be conducted by FIG technical committee member Isabell Sawade from Germany. A total of 30 participants from Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Egypt and Bulgaria are set to take part.
Representing Namibia in the rhythmic gymnastics (RG) discipline are Britt Adonis-Byl, Roumi Kostin, Janice van Rooyen and Wietsa Snyman.
Adonis-Byl, an experienced judge, said she is undertaking the exam for the fourth Olympic cycle, hoping to attain the Level 3 FIG certification alongside Kostin or even Level 2.
“Kostin and I will be tested in both individual (RGI) and group (RGG) gymnastics exams. Van Rooyen is taking her first FIG judging course and will be tested alongside Snyman in the RGI category for the entry-level FIG Level 4 certification,” she said.
Adonis-Byl explained that this is not the first time Namibian judges have participated in the FIG Brevet certification process this year.
“In February, Nadine Jaeger and Claudia Jaeger from the artistic gymnastics section successfully passed their exams, earning their FIG Level 4 judging certification.
“On Monday, three Namibian judges from the trampoline section - Nadine Jaeger, Thalia Loveira and Carane van Zyl - left to take part in a FIG Brevet course for the FIG Level 4 judging certification from Tuesday to Thursday. The NGF aims to qualify more Brevet judges across all disciplines to enhance Namibia’s presence on the international gymnastics judging panel.”
