The penultimate round of the Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power Race Series (WPP) is set to take place on the outskirts of Windhoek at Dobra Loops this Sunday.
More than 120 riders are expected to compete in respectaive categories.
Last year, the WPP Dobra Loops individual races were highly contested, with Vera Looser of MBM Ladies reigning supreme, setting a time of 1 hour 57 minutes 00 seconds. She was closely followed by Melissa Hinz of Simonis Storm Ladies powered by Hollard, who finished just two seconds behind (1:57:02). Genevieve Weber (LeMa Ladies) also clocked in at 01:57:02, securing third place.
One of the organisers, Stephans Feris, said the registration closed on Wednesday and there will be no registration on the day of the event. “The race will begin at 08:00 along the B1 Highway.”
Preparations are well on track, he added, with expectations of quality competition on Sunday.
“The weather is becoming warmer, so we expect a lot of cycling fans to come and cheer on their favourite riders as they compete in the fifth edition of the Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power Race Series. We are expecting top-quality cycling,” he said.
Feris said they have made provisions for the safety and security of the riders on the day by engaging the Namibian police and the City Police traffic departments. “We will also have medics on-site as a precaution for any incidents or accidents,” he said.
“We have left no stone unturned in preparation for this important race. Top Namibian road racing cyclists have expressed interest in being part of the races. The teams will also be looking to consolidate their positions on the rankings as the last racing time trial events of the year loom.”
Nedbank Namibia communication and public relations manager, Selma Kaulinge said: “We are excited for this race, as it will once again test the cyclists' grit and determination. The series is more than just a race, it’s an opportunity to promote health, foster connections and support our local talent.”
