This Saturday, Windhoek High School (WHS) will travel all the way to Stampriet to face off in the Standard Bank NSSR under 15 A league against hosts Roots Gymnasium.
The match will kick-off at 09:30 and will be broadcast live on https://oneuptwo.com from 09:15.
This is the first time these two teams will be meeting each other in this league. Thus far Roots Gymnasium has a winning record of three out four games; they were victorious against Okahandja Secondary School, Paresis Park and Windhoek Gymnasium, but came off second-best in their away match at Walvis Bay Private High School.
Roots Gymnasium’s U15 coach, Jandré van Wyk, says the team is well-prepared for this match and excited to compete. “We will approach this match like any other – by giving our best,” he commented.
Last year, his Roots team competed in the NSSR under 14 B league, so this is their first season venturing into the A league. Van Wyk urges his players to always keep their feet on the ground and work hard for what they want to achieve.
WHS has played three matches so far, against Paresis Park, Pro-Ed Academy and Walvis Bay Private High School. All were incredibly close contests, with the blue team unable to edge out a win.
Lorenzo Rieth, WHS’ head coach with Justin Nel as his assistant, says his team is in high spirits even though the league has been tough so far.
“Our team is looking forward to the match,” he says.
Rieth’s message to his players is to keep their spirits up. “Stick to the basics – everything will be good,” he says, stating that WHS fully intends to turn their season around this weekend.
As the league phase advances, both teams have been troubled by injuries and will hope that the match this weekend does not deliver more bad luck, as the play-off rounds approach.
