Shang Lee, Herbalife triumph at beach volleyball showdown

Teams Shang Lee and Herbalife emerged as champions in the women's and men's sections, respectively.
HI Printing beach volleyball tournament brought together 13 teams across northern parts of the country for fierce competition in the men’s and women’s sections, marking the event’s third edition milestone.Women champions
Hosted at SOS Children’s Village playground last weekend and facilitated by the Far North Volleyball Association (FNVA), the competition saw team Shang Lee crowned champions of the women’s section to grab gold medals and a cash prize of N$1000.
Shang Lee team representative, Pamwenatse Liina Feliks, expressed satisfaction with the overall experience of the tournament.
She admitted that while her team was crowned champions, it lost one game, “which didn't feel good, but we still had fun and learned from it.”
Need for more similar tourneys
She further emphasised the need for more beach volleyball tournaments to improve their skills.
“I wish we could have more of these tournaments and I’d love to see more youth, especially females, get involved. Female teams are always so few, and we had to push to get enough players to register.
“Encouraging the youth to participate in these kinds of events is important, not only to relieve stress but also to improve our skills and take volleyball to the next level,” Feliks said.
The second place was clinched by team Brime, walking away with N$600 and silver medals, with Peace Lily’s settling for bronze medals and a N$400 cash prize.
Men champions
In the men’s section, team Herbalife dominated and was crowned champion, receiving a cash prize of N$1000 to supplement its gold medals.
Herbalife team captain, Salomo Nambandi expressed gratitude and enthusiasm for the beach volleyball event.
“It was a great tournament and everything went well. We had a lot of fun and learned a few new things, especially since many of us are more familiar with indoor volleyball,” he noted.
He further acknowledged how beach volleyball events are rare in the northern regions and appreciated the efforts of Imbuwa for organising them.
“We appreciate [Imbuwa] for making it happen. It was a unique experience for us because, in the north, we don't usually have beach volleyball events,” Nambandi said.
Right at Herbalife’s heels was Mighty Bigs in second place (silver medals, N$600), followed by Top Tier in third, winning N$400 and bronze medals.
Other participants
The other teams who took part in the men’s section were Extension 17 (A and B), Team Shaluz, Sky is the Limit and Timbergurru. The women’s section featured teams Moguls and P Square.
The tournament was hosted by the Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) honourary president, Hillary Dux Imbuwa’s HI Printing and Design Investment CC as a way of giving back to the community.
The event is a true testament to Imbuwa’s commitment to supporting the growth of volleyball. He aims to expand beach volleyball, which he believes is still regionally concentrated, and discover new talent in the northern parts of the country.
