Spar women’s race set for April

The second edition of the Spar Namibia 10 km women’s race was launched in the capital yesterday.
The road race will take place from Wanderers Sports Club in Pionierspark on Saturday 6 April and will see elite athletes battle it out for to honours, as well as mass participation in the open event focused on women.
The winner of the elite women’s 10 km race will walk away with N$10 000, while the runner up takes home N$7 500. The bronze medallist will receive N$5 000 for her efforts.
Race organiser Bethold Karumendu promised a bigger and exciting event.
“We are excited about this event that will provide an opportunity for female athletes to perform.
“Entries towards this event are open and those interested are welcome to register.
“We want to thank Spar for continuing with their sponsorship of this event for a second year,” Karumendu said.
Spar Group Namibia’s Eugene van Wyngaard remarked that the company was pleased to remain as a sponsor of the event.
He has invites all those interested to come in numbers to compete in the event.
“We have decided to change the date from a Sunday to a Saturday in order to accommodate more athletes,” Van Wyngaard said.
The director of Sport Development in the ministry of sport, youth and national service, Jo-Ann Manuel, lauded the organisers for the initiative.
She believes that events of such nature promotes sports and inspires women to compete at all levels.
