Winter Xtrail series off to a flying start

More than 380 fitness enthusiasts entered to take on the rough and tough trails of the Khomas Hochland for the annual Standard Bank Winter Xtrail series event at Farm Godeis last Sunday.
This is the ninth year that Standard Bank has been sponsoring the event and OTB Sport hosted the event.
The Khomas Hochland Xtrail consists of single track, steep climbs and descents. Participants could choose between the 7 km or 16 km distances.
Saturday’s was the only event in the series that is a pure team competition that requires participants to finish with their team member(s).

16 km results
The male team O-N Trail’ers, consisting of Thomas Miller and Salomo David, established a comfortable lead and took first spot in 1:24:41.
Andrew Rowles and Pierre van Rensburg of Team Vets followed in 1:35:35:03. Team AA (Anthony Abrahams and Windsor Markus) was the third male team to finish (1:47:32).
Team Cheetah (Beata Jeremia and Salmi Nduviteko) won the 16 km female team race in 1:32:58. The duo were also second overall across the line. Pamela Vuraya and Indileni Mweshamekange finished second in the category (1:38:05).
The Wolf Pack, consisting of Hannah Winter, Anne Scharrenbroich and Jamie Vinson, was the third team over the finishing line in 2:20:01.
Khomas Nampol’s renowned marathon runners Beata Naigambo and Jeremia Shaliaxwe won the 16 km mixed team event in 1:37:01. The Okahandja team (Nesely Gawaseb and Ivonne Shelikita) was second in 1:46:46, followed by Team 2 Legit 2 Quit (Maike Epler and Kai-Uwe Brettschneider) who was third in 1:54:50.

7 km results
Teenage athletes Matt-Reece Izaaks and Nathan Chase (Young Guns) comfortably beat the event record they established last year in the 7 kilometre distance, winning the overall race as well as their 15 and younger category in 37:55.
Team Trailblazers, consisting of Calum Gunning and Ethan Brinkmann, finished second overall and was the first male open team in 38:11. Kukuta Group (Bernadinus Kambwae and Martin Kalwenya finished second in 39:04. WW2 consisting of WJ Dreyer and Wilhelm Pieterse finished third in 46:41.
The Dreyer brothers Gys and Corrie finished second in the 15 and younger male race (57:35). The Outlaws (Noah Rijnen, Wilder van Druten and Jessy Jacobs) finished thrid in 1:05:37.
DHPS 4a Dream Team, with Ilona Sickel and Vanessa Tröh won the female team category in 57:48. Team T&Ts (Nicole Botha and Jana Quinger) finished second in 1:01:35. Team Lena & Bronwen (Lena Brinkmann and Bronwen Chase) were third in 1:10:25.
The Rijnen husband and wife, Bas and Hileni, won the mixed team event in 57:22. Another husband and wife team, Dano and Karli Burger (team Scrambled Legs) were second in 58:43. Team Coral Coatings with Barend and Jenneke Koch and Marchell Titus finished third in 58:54.
Nutella Sportverein with Phillip Oldenburg, Sebastian Suffield and Anton Thum won the 11-and-under boys category in 56:23. The Invincibles (Mia Winter, Owne Rijnen and Tiarnan Keown-Kisting) won the 11-and-under girls/mixed category in 1:15:16.
