DHPS basketball teams win in SA

After a difficult two years due to the Covid pandemic, the DHPS basketball teams were once again invited to attend the prestigious International School of Southern Africa (ISSA) u/19 Basketball Festival in Mafikeng, South Africa from 18 to20 March 2022.
The tournament comprises numerous u/19 teams from schools and clubs from around Southern Africa (South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Swaziland).
For the DHPS teams, the u/19 girls (Phoenix) and boys (Penguins), it was an amazing experience to finally demonstrate their skills in an international tournament. The teams did the school and country proud, as the Phoenix, led by captain Nicole Redecker, played six games and won all six. They were crowned the champions – the first time yet that the tournament was won by a team from outside South Africa.
Operi Tjingaete was selected into the All-Star team while Ashley Linda was awarded the Most Valuable Player for the girls.
The Penguins, led by Zachary Philander (captain) played five games, won two and lost three.
