Eagles spread their wings to Uganda
Namibia’s national women’s cricket team, the Capricorn Eagles, is set to compete in the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) Women’s Day Cup from 8 to 16 March 2025.Facing hosts Uganda, Hong Kong and Nepal, the tournament presents a key opportunity for the Eagles to showcase their talent.
At a special send-off, Hon. Dr Emma Kantema-Gaomas, Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service, praised the team, saying “your journey is one of perseverance and passion. You inspire young girls across Namibia to dream big. We are incredibly proud of you.”
She also acknowledged Capricorn Group’s contribution to women’s cricket. “Strong partnerships like Capricorn Group’s investment are vital in advancing the sport.”
The government remains committed to cricket development, investing N$2.5 million in the national cricket sports grounds and allocating N$3.1 million to Cricket Namibia for 2024/2025.
The Eagles enter the tournament with confidence, following a 3-0 series win over Malaysia and a strong showing in Hong Kong. With a mix of experienced players and young talent, the Eagles are determined to leave their mark on the international stage.
