Fistball action heads to the coast
The Bank Windhoek Fistball League’s second match day takes place on Saturday (22 April 2023) in Swakopmund.Hosted by the Swakopmund Fistball Club (SFC), the event kicks off at 07:30. All four competing teams in the National A League, namely Cohen Fistball Club (CFC1), CFC 2, Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW 1) and SFC 1, will battle it out for bragging rights.
On the first match day of the league, SFC 1 impressed by forcing the record champions, SKW 1, over the entire distance of seven sets. However, SKW 1 won the encounter 4:3. After the two German internationals Johannes Jungclaussen and Ida Hollmann worked as coaches and players for almost three weeks, it remains to be seen to what extent the fistball players from the coast will be able to apply what they have learned.
The cup victory, which took place three weeks ago, in which SFC 1 celebrated its first tournament victory since 2011, could be an additional boost. The log leaders CFC 1 will be motivated to bounce back after their first defeat in 59 games to extend their lead.
SKW 4 leads the table with 15 points in the National B League. CFC 3 is in second place, but the CFC Reserve will not participate in this match day due to a lack of players. This situation allows SFC 2, SFC 3, SKW 2 and SKW 4 to make up ground.
In the u/18 category, teams SKW A, SKW B and the hosts SFC A will duel again.
Meanwhile, Austrian Fabian Greifeneder and Johannes Jungclaussen from Germany recently coached the national players. Namibia will play world champions Germany in exactly three months in the opening match of the World Championship in Mannheim.
