Paratus Namibian Cycle Classic celebrates community and connectivity

The Paratus Namibian Cycle Classic, a premier outdoor sporting event on Namibia’s sporting calendar returns on 5 and 6 October 2024.
Over a weekend of excitement, community spirit and meaningful impact, this popular family and community event brings everyone together in a spirit of goodwill, good-humoured competition and health and wellness. As one of the brand sponsors, Paratus Namibia provides both financial support and essential connectivity for the event.
The Paratus Namibian Cycle Classic features three main components: a mountain bike race with three distance categories for those who enjoy extreme sports; a road bike race for competitive and recreational cyclists with four distance options; and a Kiddies’ Classic race for young riders from toddlers to teenagers. A lively carnival atmosphere at the start and finish lines, featuring entertainment and food stalls, makes the event a full-on fun-filled and family-friendly occasion.
Paratus Namibia’s sponsorship is essential to the Cycle Classic’s success. Alongside The Namibian newspaper, Paratus funds projects and programs from Rotary Namibia, with the rest of the donation used as prize money and the production of trophies, medals and finishers tokens. This support ensures that the Cycle Classic runs smoothly and safely each year. The event was conceived and is run by the Rotary Club of Windhoek.

In addition to the sponsorship, Paratus Namibia provides marketing support services and offers invaluable advice and assistance during the event's planning stages. The company’s involvement has not only facilitated the growth of the Cycle Classic but also enabled the Rotary Club of Windhoek to attract and channel more resources into community service projects.
Proceeds from the Paratus Namibian Cycle Classic have funded numerous community projects across Namibia, such as the construction of hostels and ablution facilities at schools for farm workers' children; the establishment of computer labs; and the upgrading of classrooms and sports fields. The event also supports youth development initiatives like the Adventure Into Citizenship and the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, as well as environmental awareness camps for primary school children from low-income areas.
Each year, around ten community projects benefit from the funds raised by the Cycle Classic. The event has also fostered greater community engagement, with increasing participation from various demographics, including physically challenged cyclists whose entry fees are sponsored by The Namibian newspaper.
The 2024 Paratus Namibian Cycle Classic continues to grow in scale and significance, bringing together a diverse community of cyclists. For more information on how you can get involved, please visit this link.
